FAQs

  • Description text goes hereReiki is translated as “Universal Life Energy” and also is referred to as “ghost-force” in Japanese, due to its mysterious nature. In the medical field, it is classified as a biofield therapy or a bioelectromagnetic-based therapy. It is a natural, non-invasive healing modality that uses energy transference to promote overall well-being. It is through the intention of the sender, as well as the willingness of the receiver, that this practice can help facilitate the flow of your subtle energy field.

  • Reiki healers develop their own ways of working with the energy, but in general, a Reiki practitioner will have their hands on your body and hold them there in specific hand positions to transfer energy. If you’d prefer to not be touched at all, please let the practitioner know. Reiki practitioners should not be touching private/sensitive parts of your body.

  • During your session, your goal is to relax your body as much as possible, to allow your body to integrate the energy in order to activate its own natural healing processes. You can lay down on your back or stomach or be seated comfortably in a chair. Your eyes can be open or closed. It’s encouraged to take a few slow, deep breaths and have a glass of water before the session begins. For your comfort, it is best to wear comfortable clothes and no shoes, metal jewelry, or glasses to obstruct the Reiki practitioner’s hand placements. Electronic devices must not be near the body.

  • Yes! During a Reiki session, sometimes old emotions or memories will surface. These are coming up to be healed, and sometimes can elicit strong responses. If you are crying during or after a Reiki session, take it as a good sign that you were able to process and work through some buried or blocked feelings. Allow yourself to cry freely without stifling your tears to fully release these emotions.

  • The amount of Reiki sessions you need will depend on several things- the issues you’re going through, how long or how severe the issues have been, and how open you are to receiving the energy. For issues of more depth, weekly sessions are usually recommended, whereas visits for general well-being can be done with one session. Speak with a practitioner to discuss the best options for your situation.

  • When there is a lot of stuck energy in the body, it is sometimes normal for people to get twitches. It is a sign that energy is flowing again. Think of it like rocks blocking a flow of water in a stream: if the water starts flowing at a higher rate, the rocks can get dislodged and moved out of the way. Twitching during Reiki can be a cause of tension or reveal toxins around the area getting treatment. However, the muscle spasms are a good thing, indicating that the energy is shifting for your highest good.

  • I’m pretty sure in almost every session I’ve given that giving Reiki near the abdomen has made people’s stomachs growl. It’s nothing to be ashamed of! It’s another sign that energy is flowing. Your digestive tract is already a part of your body that’s supposed to be moving and flowing, and Reiki helps to stimulate that process.

  • This is a pretty common occurrence and nothing to be embarrassed about! Reiki flows to where it is needed, and this applies to sexual energy as well. Your practitioner will be understanding and not offended if you get an erection during your session. Sexual energy is healthy and can be one of the benefits of receiving Reiki.

  • Reiki can be sent through time and space. If this seems hard to understand, consider that our thoughts and emotions are intangible forms of energy, and aren’t bound by the physical realm. In the same way that our phones can have us talking to someone on the other side of the world, distance healing works in the time/space that you need and ask for it. It can even be sent to you in the past or future, to help you release old traumas, or to give you a sense of peace and relaxation before or after some event you expect to be stressful. Distance Reiki is usually not given for a full hour like most other Reiki sessions, but is given in 15-30 minute increments. When I give Distance Reiki sessions, I usually give 2 consecutive days of 30 minute sessions each day. It can be sent while you’re sleeping if you wish, although I’ve found it to be most beneficial while the person is awake and able to really be present for their healing. It is also a beneficial practice so that the person can be in a comfortable place in their own home or bed.

  • Everybody experiences Reiki differently. The typical consensus is that afterwards, people feel very relaxed, their aches and pains have subsided, and they’re filled with a deep sense of peace.

Sometimes, if a person has had a deep emotional wound that Reiki brings forward to heal, it can bring about bouts of crying, or feeling emotionally raw. It can also bring about old memories that surface to come up for your awareness to heal. This is also completely natural. Some people also experience vivid dreams for a few days after their sessions. Although these experiences are intense in the moment, sometimes you have to “feel it to heal it.” After all, we are emotional beings, and especially here in the USA, too often we numb and repress the so-called “negative” aspects of ourselves, instead of allowing ourselves to express and experience emotions that we all will eventually have to come to terms with. One of the many reasons people come to Reiki is to work through those emotional blocks, some of which they may not even know could hold them back. Just know that if this is your experience, it is ultimately for the best and will help you integrate every experience you have, the light and the dark.

  • I mainly use tuning forks in my sound sessions. I have weighted forks that are pressed against the body along acupuncture meridians, as well as unweighted forks that are held above the body. This works on a bioenergetic level to get your cells vibrating at the same frequency and getting the body “tuned up.” I’ve used elements of Acutonics, Biofield Tuning, and the Tune and Heal method, although I’ve found through researching and working with multiple types of healing, that my approach is intuitive in nature and doesn’t adhere specifically to any one modality.

  • Similar to a Reiki session, it’s good to have a glass of water beforehand, as sound moves much faster through water. You’ll need to be wearing comfortable clothing (preferably no jeans.) Shoes, glasses, and any obstructions around the wrists or feet must be removed.

  • Again, similar to a Reiki session or Acupuncture treatment, people react differently during these sessions. Some people can feel the energy moving through their bodies, feel tingling sensations or feel a tone that is put on an Acupuncture meridian near the foot reverberate in their heads or chests. Some people are less inclined to feel these sensations and instead just feel a deep feeling of relaxation. Some others will also receive detox responses from their bodies, as certain physical toxins and emotional responses get released from the body. This is all a natural part of the healing process. If you are coming to a session specifically for an adrenal reset or to detoxify the liver, expect a few days of being tired or sluggish as your body releases those toxins and your organs readjust to their natural rhythms.

  • The Raindrop Technique is another noninvasive practice, where essential oils are placed on the feet and spine in sequence. It’s incredibly relaxing and helpful in supporting the immune system. Many of the oils used have antiviral and antibacterial properties, encouraging cleansing of the body’s systems. It can also ease muscle discomfort and soothe inflammation. It promotes positive feelings and can relieve stress. It’s not recommended for children, pregnant women, or people with severe autoimmune problems.
